Here are some new mums from Don Bosco sponsored by The Koster family.

Mylene Cegundo is 32, she already has 1 child and she is 3 months pregnant, she is now on the BBB programme.

Part of our BBB programme is education. In fact it is THE most powerful and life changing aspects of BBB. We have fpound that slowly as we talk and mentor and stand with our mums they are making better choices and planning for their babies. This year we are starting with the very basics in Don Bosco.

Eating healthy

Drinking lots of water

Germs and basic first aide

Choosing a hospital or Centre birth

Immunisations and Baby checkups

Contraception

Body Awareness/Avoiding Pregnancy

The Koster’s second birth is a very young lady in Don Bosco. Rose Ann Gunno is only 18 year old and this is her first baby. She is 3 months pregnant and her partner is a worker in Divisoria.

We have so many teen pregnancies in Manila and the Philippines in fact the Philippines is one of the highest rates in the world for teen pregnancies. Something we aim to see reduced. We teach and focus on these aspects continually!

Thanks Kosters and pray for these ladies. It makes a difference. You already have made a difference!

Blessings

Cathy Mark and Chris.

Birth Highlights for Lighthouse

One of our most commited sponsors is Lighthouse Church in Melbourne,

Here are some of the highlights from last year’s births, so exciting to see healthy babies being born in Baseco!

Roselyn Espinosa had a gorgeous baby boy John Mark

He is pictured here with his  2 sisters, they actually care for this gorgeous baby boy as his mother was forced back into the workforce. She however breastfed for as long as possible and now his sisters bottle feed him. They are responsible girls and look after John well. But again this situation shows the enormous pressure these families are under.

Thank you Lighthouse for sponsoring this mum, birth and baby, he is certainly healthy and you had a great hand in that outcome!

Here is another Lighthouse success Mary Jane Caintoy’s baby was a 9lb boy, great hospital birth with no complications.

Another teen pregnancy Annalyn had a baby boy Daniel , yes she is in a relationship but she is still very young, but her baby was big and healthy!.

Just a beautiful photo of another baby happily breastfeeding, Emily Saler and her baby girl Rhea Mae born safely in hospital.

These are only a few of the many, have a peep on the Lighthouse Sponsor Page, I am sure this church will have such a reward in heaven…..looking after the little ones here on earth blesses those in heaven

Thanks Lighthouse

Small Things Matter

While we were in Manila this year we were honoured to partner with Days For Girls International

Please check out their website for some fantastic reports and details

One of our most impacting mornings was spent with this gorgeous young mum and her newborn.

Midwife Sandra a member of our Birthing Better Babies Team (Impact Church) was able to give her a Days for Girls Post-partum Kit and explain exactly how she needed to use it. It was a joy to watch.

It was an emotional experience, every response we have had has been gratitude and delight.

We are saving these women at least 40 pesos a day (that is approximately $1.00) doesn’t sound much right? BUt this family only earns approximately $1 a day, her husband is a pedicab driver. These Kits CAN and DO save lives.
Today this family will be able to afford rice AND some fish. Instead of buying sanitary pads.

Very very exciting! I am enriched knowing that a small thing can affect lives!

Oh by the way, they asked me to name the Baby…a little boy I named him Joshua.

I love my work….. it makes me happy!

Thanks to Days for Girls you empower me to empower others I am grateful!

Babies Having Babies

I only just posted about my 6 plus teen pregnancies in Baseco when Pastora Marivic sent me this set of simply heartbreakingly gorgeous photos of a BBBaby mum Danica.

Danica is one of our teen pregnancies only 16 years old and her sweet baby girl Khaira Kate Narce was born on the 10th of June.

She was confined in Hospital for one week as she and the baby had an infection due to a urine infection in Pregnancy, probably untreated until the delivery.  BBBabies helped this young girl with all of her Hospital expenses which probably would have been impossible to pay without us.

They are well and Khaira is being breastfed fully.

I am grateful we were able to help her but saddened that another young girl has began the journey to motherhood at such a young age. Pray we can turn the tide of teenage pregnancy in Baseco. Really agree that we can make a difference to the girls in this area.

A very sweet baby born to a very sweet girl!

Perfect Match

There are moments I just know God has orchestrated as I travel this BBB road.

This trip brought a wonderful moment to excite and encourage me on the way.

I had a dear mum of many here in Australia ask to sponsor a lady in the Philippines, but she wanted a mum she could engage with, pray for and love on….a family she could “adopt” and call theirs…. a spiritual Filipino family. So armed with this knowledge I had one eye open for this “family” and mum as I traipsed through the slums

It was nearing the end of this trip and I still did not know or have an idea who this mum and family would be as there had to certain criteria she fell into (for accountability etc) and future relationship development.

On one of the last remaining days we heard that a dear Jn14;12 friend became pregnant, through some pretty dismal circumstances. We cried together as sisters and mothers, we rejoiced that God gave her this baby and I very quickly realised she was THE MUM for my sponsor here is SA.

It was a Perfect Match!

Here is Edna with 2 of her 5 boys

20150505_151616

God knew!

He knits people together and has a plan beyond my dreams! Edna knows about her sponsor and will now grow in a new relationship with a sister thousands of miles away. Perhaps one day they will meet in the flesh!

Perhaps it will be in heaven or before!

Relationship is how we change lives not just money! I know my sponsor here in Australia will love her as if she was next door!

I am happy to be part of this process!

Matilde: True Willingness To Learn

I have known this lady for nearly 5 years now…

She was one of my faithful attendees at my well attended and much loved Gasungan Birthing Classes many years ago.

She is a leader in this small fellowship and has been faithful .

I wrote a quote in the linked blog on Gasungan ladies and our ‘Tilde is a living example of a true learner

You don’t need fancy highbrow traditions or money to really learn. You just need people with the desire to better themselves.

I just love this photo of her, relaxed feeding her big 9lb baby, we think that is a BBB record!  Very healthy little Aleah!

Sometimes I like to take a moment and smell the roses and rejoice in mothering with these ladies, the great equalizer and bond in the earth is birthing….we are all born through a mother and a father…..rich and poor, black or white, male or female, the lawyer and the pedicab driver we are all equal.

Birth proves it!

He is safe in the arms of his family,  very important with girls like this. Without a supportive family she will not be able to work and provide for her child!

VICKY  PRENSICA

Note this lady replaced your previous Mum,  Lindy Estrada….

Baseco has such a transient population many times we start a sponsorship and the mother simply disappears. We are not sure what happens to them, sometimes they are moved back to the province (the country) to their grandparents, sometimes they shift quickly and cannot tell us. Either way we start again with a new mum!

I actually do not have a photo of the mum in this instance but I do have a baby photo

Thanks so much to Miss S and The Secombs.

You are a blessing to me and Birthing Better Babies
