It is a New Day!

To our amazing Birthing Better Babies supporters,

Just a small update on BBB and our Baseco family.

As you know I have recently visited Baseco for a short time teaching and working with the local youth in the church. If you follow Pastor Mark Pedder and his blog, you will have heard of the new developments and strategic plans for the foreshore of Manila Bay extending around to their John 14:12 base in Baseco. This huge development means that within 5 years Baseco as it is will no longer exist. If you want to have a look at the development have a look at this YouTube video

The church fortunately is not a building, it is people. So the Church of Jesus Christ will continue but of course this will change things for not only John 14:12 but will extend to the Birthing Better Babies Programme.

Another thing to note is there is also a resurgence of Governement support towards Women and Babies, which is fantastic for the Nation, however this has an impact on the need for Sponsorship in Baseco and surrounding slums. We have seen a slow decline of requests for support as the government are now fulfilling this much needed role.

So after much prayer and deliberation we have decided to close down the BBB programme and concentrate efforts on building the people in the church, getting the children through school and University preparing them for the day they are independent.

Mark, Christine and I have been so blessed by your continued support over the past seven or so years. It has surpassed our wildest dreams. There have been close to 250 births and babies sponsored and supported by our Australian and overseas sponsors. This is a tremendous start for these babies. Just have a look at some of the faces and babies we have touched over the years!

The story does not end here though, there is still much to do in the meantime. BBB may be closing their doors after such a successful era, but there is still tremendous need in general support, and sponsorship of the kids in Baseco. There is a small amount of money left from BBB funds that we are still using to help Mothers and Babies that do come to us. No money is ever wasted. However do feel free to contact Ps Mark and Chris on their website to see the latest news and to support the church in this time of transition.

On a personal note Birthing Better Babies was such a fulfilling part of of my life. Yes I will miss it, I will miss travelling to Manila, I will miss the people I have met and the sweet ladies I have served in Baseco, also the Babies and their gorgeous newness. However I am not sad at all, but sense it is the end of an exciting era and time for a new thing.

I am excited for my brothers and sisters in Baseco and for my dear friends of nearly 20 years Mark and Chris. God will certainly crystallise and refocus them in the new era, but I think that is a good thing not a bad thing. Clarification of what we should NOT be doing creates an opening for God to show us what we SHOULD be doing.

Thanks again to YOU, our fantastic sponsors both young and old. From individuals to corporations, Birthing Better Babies thank you from our heart and on behalf of the Mothers and the Babies of Baseco we thank you as well. You have made a difference, and as I have always said, “How can we change the world? One birth at a time!” We certainly have!

Bless you all
Cathy Troup with (and on behalf of) Ps Mark and Christine Pedder.

Days for Girls

We have been really blessed to partner with our local chapter of Days for Girls in Kapunda South Australia

Our dear friend Deb has welcomed us with open arms to Kapunda Craft and Hope Sewing Days!

It has been so exciting to meet and sew and be given over 50 kits to take for free to Baseco this year.

I have been able to share the time with my daughter (9 years old) who has enjoyed thoroughly using an overlocker and zooming up liners for Days for Girls Kits…..makes her part of the ministry in Baseco. That is big in her world!

The kits are ingenious, they are fully recyclable allowing girls to wash and reuse their pads without any ongoing costs for sanitary items . They are simply beautiful as well! All easy to use and pretty to look at housed in a discreet cotton backpack!

All I can say is that I am grateful for ladies who love to sew with a purpose!

Not to mention the beautiful quilts made and singlets collected for me.

28 Days for Girls

Every girls deserves dignity and Days for Girls helps us get there!

Fruit of The Barossa

The Barossa Rotary Club in the recent past has sponsored some Births

They are beginning to filter through as well

See THIS PAGE for details

This birth was a first though

Baby Janine received one of many hand sown, waterproofed backed quilts from our dear and treasured Barb Granzien in The Barossa Valley

Barb has had a deep burden for these gorgeous mum’s and babies in the Manilan slum, she cannot go……she is one of our and wiser women in the church!! , but she can SEW!

This dear woman has sewn 15 or more EXQUISITE quilts for these gorgeous BBBabies. All with a sweet note of love and a scripture on the back!

It does not take much to make a difference but Barb has! Used the gift that God has given her and used it to bless others!

I am excited, anyone can do it!

Everyone can make a difference!

This little baby Janine will safely lie on the floor of her house with Barb’s Quilt!!!

The Barossa has great fruit flowing from it, not just physically but spiritually!

One way you can help……

Mark just posted a brilliant article on the effect of vitamin deprivation in babies in the womb. It is a well documented fact that ample vitamins and minerals are linked to higher IQ, of course good general health and flourishing babies and lots lots more.

BBBabies are constantly on the prowl for Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Vitamins, we find that the Aussie gear is supremely better than the Vitamins we can source in the Philippines.Copyright (c) 123RF Stock Photos

We use any brand, we also use low date and have even used slightly out of date tablets as they are without a doubt BETTER than what we are able to source locally. Whole or half bottles work too, I remember only using half of my vitamins when I was pregnant. Chat to me either way……as long as postage does not make it uneconomical it may be an option.

We have seen first hand how the babies in Baseco who have access to vitamins are bigger at birth, chubby as they get older, they are alert and much much happier than their baby friends who do not get any at all. They are alert and awake at birth also, this would add to a better breastfeeding outcome…….so many babies have no strength to suck as they are born malnourished rather than NOURISHED and content, ready for a vigorous first and subsequent feeds!

So if you are looking for a away to help this may be another way you can help us

Pray and ask God
